Quality

Principles of the Vision Center

When we established The Vision Center, we set out to differentiate ourselves from the quick, impersonal services that were being offered at some corporate eye care offices. It was our goal to place our patients' visual welfare as our top priority.

With this goal in place, we formulated four principles to guide us in providing for our patients. By following these principles, we shall provide exceptional, quality eye care in the best possible manner.

  • We will always place our patients' visual health as our main concern.

  • We will provide the best possible vision examination for our patients.

  • We will only provide eyeglasses and contact lenses of the highest quality and craftsmanship for every patient.

  • We will treat our patients with the respect, dignity, and consideration that they rightly deserve.

Benefits of a Comprehensive Examination

Did you know that a comprehensive eye examination can uncover more than just eye and vision disorders? Serious health problems, such as hypertension, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, even a brain tumor, can be detected during an eye examination. However, these conditions can only be detected if you receive a thorough, unrushed, comprehensive eye examination, such as the exam you will receive at The Vision Center.

Most people don't know what a complete eye examination includes. See our complete examination checklist for a complete listing of all the tests we routinely perform during our comprehensive eye examination.

Dr. Thomas Cassidy

"Since earning my degree I've continued to attend many educational seminars each year - even more than required for my optometric license. This keeps me up-to-date with the advances and changes in eye care."

Dr. Cassidy is a 1984 graduate of Ferris State College of Optometry (now Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University). Upon receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree with honors, he practiced for three years in Massachusetts at one of the largest contact lens practices in the state. He also practiced two years in Ohio, before returning to his home state of Michigan.

"I believe that a patient is entitled to as much information about their eyes as possible."

A firm believer in providing his patients with the information they need to make the best possible choices about their vision needs, Dr. Cassidy formed Visual Information Products in 1990. This company designed and manufactured patient information and education devices which allowed optometrists to clearly and easily explain complex ocular conditions to their patients. These products are used in eye care facilities throughout the country.

"Taking the extra time for any patient with a special need is a rewarding part of my occupation. I especially enjoy working with children and athletes to help them perform better in the classroom and in their sport."

Dr. Cassidy enjoys working with children and devotes time to going to area schools and speaking to school children about the importance of healthy eyes. He also enjoys working with athletes to improve their visual performance.

Dr. Cassidy lives in Canton with his wife Helene, and two children Sarah and Andrew.

Dr. Brian Pierce

"Optometry is a rapidly changing profession, and I want to help lead eyecare into the future."

Dr. Brian Pierce is a 1992 graduate of Ferris State University College of Optometry. His undergraduate education was completed at Michigan State University. Optometric internships were completed at Battle Creek Veterans Hospital, Southern Michigan Correctional Institution, as well as at Ferris State University's Optometric Clinic. These experiences gave him a wide variety of patient care and ocular health experiences.

"I have received the best education possible, and I continue to advance my optometric education through continuing education classes and workshops."

Dr. Pierce was one of the first optometrists in the state of Michigan to be licensed to prescribe therapeutic eye medications to treat eye disease and infections. He is an associate of The Laser Center, one of the leaders in refractive laser eye surgery to correct near sightedness, far sightedness, and astigmatism. He is certified to provide preliminary and postoperative care to patients undergoing laser surgery.

Dr. Pierce lives in Dexter with his wife Mary, and his children Dylan and Breanna.
